Politics 0 comments

I try to steer clear of discussing politics on this blog. Mostly I like to focus on ways we can make our planet a nicer place to live and figure out ways we can all get along better. (Pretty idealistic for an old guy eh?)

Although I don't usually discuss politics here, I do try to keep up with what is going on, and although I am Canadian and see things from a Canadian perspective, things that go on in the U.S. always affect us in some way, so we Canadians do have a vested interest in who will be the next U.S. President, even if we can't vote.

I don't have a lot of good things to say about the current president, so I won't say anything at all. I'm not alone in my feelings, and I think that most of what needs to be said has already been said, so 'nuff said about that.

Looking forward, although I have at times leaned toward liberal ideals as well as conservative, recently I tend to gravitate to a more middle ground. My idealistic youthful liberal self morphed through a phase of being pretty conservative to the point at which I am now at, where I understand and agree with certain liberal principles and ideas, but still yearn for an older and simpler time with old-fashioned values.

Until now, I have not come out and endorsed a party or a candidate in the U.S. election. I have been waiting and watching, listening and researching. I guess my idealistic nature was hoping for the perfect candidate, but with middle age, comes the wisdom to understand that there is no such thing.

I will say however, that I am now endorsing Barack Obama for President. I have always thought he was a capable and charismatic leader, in spite of his 'lack of experience', or perhaps because of it!

I have been much more convinced that he is the right choice since Hillary dropped out of the race and I have been watching Obama's campaign. Sure, all candidates are able to put the right spin on, and say the right things, but over the long haul, little things come out that tell you if a person is pretty genuine or if they have certain ideas that they may not normally publically state, but that come out in subtle ways.

I think Obama has handled criticism like a gentleman and a strong leader. I really think Obama is the kind of leader America needs right now. Is he perfect? Of course not. Is he capable? Does he have enough experience? Can he affect real change? Will he be able to earn back the respect of the world for the U.S.? I think he can and will.

It has been a long time since I have seen a leader like Obama. The more he campaigns, the clearer the choice seems to me.

Time for a little happy dance! 0 comments

With all the bad news lately, gas prices, the economy, etc... I thought it was time to bring back a little light hearted, feel-good stuff, and who better to bring it home than Matt Harding!

I discovered Matt a few years back when he made his first 'Where the Hell is Matt?' video and I loved it. My friend Surya posted Matt's new video on his blog so I thought it was time to bring back the old video as well as post the new one.

I love the way these videos deliver a message of peace, happiness and global harmony without doing anything except dancing and music.

Thanks Matt!!!!

Enjoy!!
